WELLNESS — WOMEN ARE MORE PRONE TO AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES
A specific gene (Xist) is found on the second X chromosome in females and it contributes majorly to increased autoimmune susceptibility. Despite the fact that both sexes start with 22 identical chromosome pairs, females have two X chromosomes, which leads to a mechanism called "X-chromosome inactivation". This neutralizes excessive protein production and Xist's role in this process is to trigger a robust immune response, potentially linked to autoimmune disorders. This single gene itself may be the entire reasoning that women are more prone to autoimmune dysfunctions.
