MARKETS — BRANDS ARE GOING PRIVATE
Publicly traded brands don’t have it easy considering they’ve got inputs from everyone, so more and more, luxury goods brands are going private! This idea reflects a growing trend as some are opting to avoid the challenges of the public market (where financials are scrutinized) and stock performance is closely monitored.
CAREER — THRIVING IN THE “SKILLS ECONOMY”
Employers are increasingly searching for talent based on experience/skills rather than a college degree. There are a ton of bootcamps and online courses that help you attain the skills you need for a specific role. When searching for a job, it’s important to list your relevant skills or the tech stack that you’re knowledgeable about. Also, be ready to discuss any of those skills with the hiring manager.
TRAVEL — CHECKED BAG FEES & RULES FOR EARNING MILES ARE CHANGING
American Airlines is increasing checked bag fees for domestic flights. The first bag will cost $35 online ($40 in person) & second bag will be $45. Also, starting May 1, American Airlines will limit earning AAdvantage frequent flyer miles to flights booked directly with the airline, preferred travel agencies, and eligible partner airlines. If you book a basic economy ticket through another website, you won’t be able to earn miles.
