BUSINESS: THIS SHOE BRAND IS FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY
Shoes for Crews has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is notedly in $500M-$1B of debt. The company cited a multitude of factors including inflation, the retail downturn, shift to online shopping, and the pandemic, which strained its liquidity and vendor relationships. They plan to sell the business as part of the bankruptcy process, with the support of its lenders.
NICHE: GUIDE TO CELEBRITY BEAUTY BRANDS
Celebrities shifted from being the faces of brands to being the founders and recently there has been a plethora of brand launches. Alicia Keys launched a skincare brand called Keys Soulcare while Beyoncé launched a haircare brand called Cécred (as in sacred). Surprisingly, Drake also launched scented candles called Better World Fragrance House. One of the most popular brands is Rhode by Hailey Bieber and the the insanely successful Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez.
FINANCE: THE NEW MAGIC NUMBER FOR RETIREMENT
According to a recent survey, the average person believes they need $1.46 million to retire comfortably (↑ from $1.27 million last year). Although there was a 19% boost to 401(k) accounts last year, people still feel that this goal is such a far reach and rather than a goal, this number has become an anxiety marker. General guidelines recommend saving ~10-15% of annual income starting at age 25 to have sufficient funds by age 67 but it’s noted that the average American has only saved around $333,000.
Sometimes you don’t watch to film a movie but prefer to have it in the background. For Harry Potter fans, there is no better soundtrack than this to listen to while working. It’s a mix of calm and magic.

ON RESILIENCE: "Resilience is not about bouncing back to the way things were before, but about bouncing forward with strength and purpose." — SHERYL SANDBERG
True resilience is not the bounce-back, actually far from that. It takes inner fortitude and a clear sense of direction to not just passively recover, but to actively shape a new and better path forward.
SOUTH CAROLINA
EAT: Poogan’s Porch is where you’ll want to head for brunch. Magnolias has been in Charleston for 30 years and they feature upscale Southern cuisine. Amen Street is another option if you love seafood. You can join them for lunch or dinner. For fine dining, make a reservation at Circa 1886 — the ever-changing menu showcases modern Southern cuisine with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients.
STAY: Post House Inn is located in Old Village which is 10 minutes from Charleston downtown and was also featured in The Notebook. This is a restaurant with an inn above it that is quite new as it opened in 2020. Another great option is The Dewberry, a 5-star hotel located in Charleston. This hotel has a southern comfort style and could be straight out of Mad Men.
DO: Take a stroll through Charleston’s historic district, where you’ll come across colorful antebellum homes, cobblestone streets, and beautiful gardens. Don't miss highlights like Rainbow Row, the Battery, and the French Quarter. There are also many beautiful beaches, including Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivan's Island.
